How to maximize your condo space

With the popularity of small homes and condos, finding space for all your needs comes at a premium. Do you want the convenience of having a home office, but aren't sure where your guests will stay when they visit? A great way to address this is to transform your spare room into a multipurpose office/guest room. Sound overwhelming? It doesn't have to be. Here are some tips to easily achieve a workable space that both you and your guests will love.

Don't use bulky furniture

Choosing the right size of furniture is important when merging two spaces. The bed will typically occupy the majority of the room so pick something that is compact with built-in storage solutions. Murphy and day beds, foldouts and some styles of futons can be great space-saving options.

Make use of your space

Be smart with your arrangement of furniture. Don't be afraid to play around with your floor plan and move pieces around until they offer a functional flow to your room. Don't be married to a piece of furniture either. Sometimes you have to explore different sizes. You may want to consider the space utilization of custom pieces.

Many people don't recognize the value of vertical space. Walls are not just for artwork! A great way to maximize space is to add storage to your walls that double as décor. Floating shelves are a popular choice but if you want to get a little more creative, try clipboards, wall files/organizers, magazine holders, small décor baskets, or get a metal wire grid and use clothespins to attach your important papers.

Add cozy touches

You want to make your guests feel at home and not like they're visiting an office. Keep your design light and minimal. Your office space should be clutter free, so the focus is more on your guest room space. Add decorative pillows, warm blanket throws, a plush area rug and for that extra homey feel, fresh flowers are always a delight to come home to. I also like to add little personal touches for my guests by having a basket filled with towels, small toiletries and their favourite snack or candies!
